The Spargiani are few, hospitable, silent, smiling and wise. They love the calm of September and respect the grace of the ones who land on their island with the ashtray in their pockets. They are tender people who live in the wild heart of Spargi in order to preserve their simplicity from the assault of the coasts in August. They wait cyclically for the autumn and the spring, they live with the sea in their eyes, they drink the silence of the night, they respect the mistral. Since a year ago, they have been gathering, communicating with measured gazes and gestures, placing their flags on the shore, and stating, with firm dignity, that the true protagonist of their celebration is Nature. The Spargiani only exist in the fantasy of sailors and in the dreams of musicians. In music they search rough and imperfect gems, small points of obsidian gathered on the shore, in order to get food and tan their celebration outfits. 
The Spargiani will wait for the arrival of their friends of the Big Island (so they call Sardinia) in order to greet the Sun.
When the islands speak, the inhabitants of their small villages race to dock the boats of their guests, taking them by the hand and sharing with them the seducing beauty of Cala Corsara. Here there is space for the collective gathering and the poetry of the sunset. In the darkness of the night, the Spargiani look at the sky searching for falling stars. Every inhabitant of the island will preserve a part in his or her marsupio. For an ancient tradition, the Spargiani can only ask the stars to renovate their dreams. And it is with these dreams that Isole che parlano will land on Spargi!

Il 4 settembre 2004 Hamid Drake e Paolo Angeli si incontrano per la prima volta sul palco di Sant’Anna Arresi per il festival I confini tra Sardegna e Jazz. Magia è l’unica parola che viene in mente per descrivere questo concerto immortalato nel cd Uotha (Nubop 2006), lavoro discografico considerato dalla critica come uno dei lavori più importanti di connessione tra l’avanguardia di Chicago e la scena creativa Europea. Il duo ha alle spalle nove anni di concerti e dialoghi serrati. Ogni appuntamento dal vivo è una sorpresa, un vulcano di creatività, un richiamo ancestrale basato sulla poliritmia. Alla batteria uno dei più grandi percussionisti del jazz contemporaneo, il sultano dell’Illinois Hamid Drake, all chitarra-cello Paolo Angeli, con alle spalle la sua isola che scalpita e cerca di emergere sotto ogni nota. Il viaggio, il percorso, è sempre imprevedibile: può portarci alla densità sonora vissuta ai piedi dei grattacieli di Chicago, oppure consegnarci ai moti riflessivi e silenziosi dei graniti galluresi. La loro navigazione a vista, compiuta con con rilevamenti e punti nave appena abbozzati, regala sempre concerti in grado di stupire.
